Rep. Michele Bachmann, while admitting she loves the dance floor, has dispelled rumors she would be on the popular TV show "Dancing With the Stars" next season.
"In full disclosure, I did win a polka dancing competition when I was in the 10th grade at my alma mater, Anoka High School in Anoka, Minn.," the Minnesota lawmaker, who was a candidate for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, said in a prepared statement Wednesday. "But, despite my 10th grade polka success and my lifelong love of ballroom dancing, the recent rumors are false. I will not be joining 'Dancing with the Stars.'"
Mrs. Bachmann said her "time and attention remains committed" to her district and to the "serious issues (that) face our nation."
"I'm continuing to push for cutting wasteful government spending, a successful conclusion to the decades-long St. Croix River Crossing Project in my district, and repealing the government takeover of health care," she said.
While Mrs. Bachmann won't boogie on TV any time soon, a poll by The Washington Times and JZ Analytics in January showed that Republican primary voters nationwide said Newt Gingrich was the GOP presidential candidate they would most like to see on "Dancing With the Stars." The poll was conducted after the "polka queen of Anoka" dropped out of the race.
